Mana Contemporary Chicago: Open Artist Studios

Coinciding with the opening of the new fourth floor studios and the exhibition “The Land Promised” at Mana Contemporary Chicago, several resident artists will host open studios on the facility’s fifth floor. Chicago Artists Month Open Studios

In celebration of Chicago Artists Month, Hiromi participated in Open Studios at Mana Contemporary Chicago. Other participants included a range of painters, sculptors, photographers and fashion designers: Olea Nova, Teresa Hofheimer, Gustav Reyes, Pam Hamilton, Dariusz Labuzek, Jermikko, Ervin Overes, Bruce Jefferson, Saul Aguirre & Miguel Cortez, Crystal B. Simms, and Matt Siber.

ManaFest Chicago

Coinciding with EXPO Chicago and Fountain Art Fair, Mana Contemporary Chicago celebrated its grand opening with a public open house, exhibition of artwork by Ray Smith, and open artist studios. Hiromi participated in the open studios along with other Mana Contemporary artists including Rajee Aryal, Alex Chitty, Beate Geissler, Teresa Hofheimer, Pedro Igrez, Industry of the Ordinary, Barbara Kasten, Dawn Korman, Michael LaHood, Jason Lazarus, Sarah Mendelsohn, Eddie Parach, Matt Siber, Tony Tasset, Jan Tichy, and Krysta Wortendyke.

Hiromi Tanaka: Solo Painting Show with music by Tatsu Aoki

Presented as a part of the Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival, Sight & Sound was a collaboration between artist Hiromi and musician Tatsu Aoki. Tatsu’s jazz ensemble blended with Hiromi’s painting to create a unique and vibrant harmony. Guests enjoyed wine, sake, and hors d’oeuvres as they took in the “sights and sounds.” By the evening’s end, many were already asking when the next collaboration was to take place.

The Japan Tsunami Charity Art Show

Organized by Hiromi Tanaka, the charity art show included artists from Japan and Chicago. The event featured paintings by Hiromi, music by Tatsu Aoki, and film by Junko Kajino and Ed M. Koziarski. Proceeds benefitted the Japanese Red Cross, the Fukushima Organic Farmers Network, and the production of Uncanny Terrain, a documentary about the plight of organic farmers living and working outside the Fukushima evacuation zone.
